Statement on Chabot’s Vote Against Marriage Equality

CINCINNATI— Democratic nominee for Congress in OH-01 Greg Landsman released the following statement in response to Congressman Chabot’s vote against the Respect for Marriage Act:

“Chabot continues to prove that he is too extreme to represent us in Congress. From government-mandated pregnancies to deciding who we can love and marry – Chabot and his right-wing colleagues only care about imposing their outdated, narrow views on our lives. To our LGBTQIA+ community and to everyone who believes in equality – I will always stand with you. We’re going to win this race and we’re going to finally have someone who is fighting for all of us in Congress.”

This vote is part of a pattern of cruelty against the LGBTQIA+ community from Chabot. He has a long public record of opposing marriage equality – saying as recently as 2016 that marriage is between one man and one woman. He’s repeatedly voted for a federal constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and for the Defense Of Marriage Act. He also voted against the Equality Act.
