In Final Report Before Election, Landsman’s Opponent Raises Little, Spends Big on Yard Signs and Billboards

October 16, 2024

CINCINNATI, OH – On Tuesday, Rep. Greg Landsman (OH-01) announced raising over twice that of his opponent in the third quarter, ending with over 5 times as much cash on hand as Orlando Sonza. Sonza ended the quarter with just $309,318 in the bank and, despite cries about fiscal responsibility, spent most of what he raised, including $26,000 on billboards and yard signs.

In a statistically competitive district, the mismanagement of Sonza’s campaign contributed to yet another race-rating shift toward Landsman; Inside Elections reported that the race is “off the board”, citing Sonza’s “lack of funding, candidate quality” and the “strength of the incumbent”.

During the same time period, Landsman raised $843,418, ending the quarter with $1,557,673 in the bank. Unlike his opponent, Landsman does not accept corporate PAC money, relying instead on his broad grassroots support. Landsman’s strength heading into the final 3 weeks is evident; the campaign has been unanswered on television for the past 5 weeks with ads about freedom, safety, and making it easier to raise a family in Southwest Ohio.
